Ameneh Bahrami was blinded in an acid attack by her university classmate after she refused to marry him. He had sexually harassed her for years, and in 2004 he threw acid in her face as she was on her way home from work. She was disfigured and blinded in both eyes as a result. An Iranian court ruled that he should have acid drops administered to his eyes to blind him. This type of retribution is allowed under Iran's Sharia law.
Bahrami had pursued this retributive punishment, but at the last minute she decided to pardon him and spare him from the blinding. She will seek financial compensation, something she had previously rejected, instead.
What do you think of this eye for an eye justice, and this woman's incredible grace in refusing to administer it?
